
GUIDING PRINCIPLES
- Source fibre within Saskatchewan and within Canada
- Source/hire labour within Saskatchewan
- Have processing of fibre and fibre products conducted within Canada
- Demonstrate three or more soil to soil processes on farm/acreage (through feeding practices, manure handling, erosion control, grazing practices, restoration of grassland or wetlands, wildlife habit, coexistence, etc.)
Producer Membership
Those in our fibre shed region who grow fibre or add value to it. Includes farmers, ranchers, designers, sewers, weavers, knitters, felters, spinners, mill owners and natural dyers.
Benefits of the annual $45 membership fee
- Inclusion in the Prairie Fibreshed Producer Directory, which includes your business page with a brief bio, photos, your contact information and links to your social media
- Use of the Prairie Fibreshed logo (see guidelines below)
- 10% discount on workshops
- Access to monthly Zoom meet-ups to connect with other producers and supporters
- Free posting on the Marketplace
Community Membership
Those in our fibreshed region who want to support and be a part of creating a fibre economy in Saskatchewan. The only guideline for Community members is that they reside within the Prairie Fibreshed region.

- Access to monthly Zoom meet-ups to connect with producers and other supporters
- Free posting on the Marketplace
Use of the Prairie Fibreshed logo is included with a producer membership fee for products meeting the following guidelines.
Core Requirements
Materials: Must be natural, grown/harvested in the Prairie Fibreshed.
Processing: Fibre can be processed in Canada if not possible in Saskatchewan.
Notions/Closures: Use natural options (wood, shell, bone, yarn) when possible. Sewing thread should be organic and regionally sourced.
Dyes & Mordants: Use natural dyes from the fibreshed when possible. Dyes can be sourced outside the fibreshed if they are not available within Saskatchewan.
Mordants/scouring agents when possible should come from within Canada.
Labour: All labour must be done in Saskatchewan.
Synthetic Content: Products may contain up to 5% synthetic fibre by weight but must be clearly labeled.
No Superwash treatments allowed.
Exceptions
Milling/Finishing: Until local facilities exist, processing outside the region (within Canada) is allowed.
Notions: Synthetic sewing thread may be used but must be clearly labeled.
Special Approval: Producers may request item-by-item approval if regional sourcing is not possible.
Tools, Books, Patterns: Can be Fibreshed-certified if designed by a producer member, even if not made from local materials.
Compliance
Non-compliant items must remove the Fibreshed tag/logo if flagged.
Repeated violations (3+ times) will result in suspension from the Producer Directory.
Guidelines are considered policy and may be changed at the discretion of the Prairie Fibreshed Board of Directors.
