FLEECE COMPETITION DETAILS
- Class should be specified on the entry form, as well as breed(s). Fleeces may be re-classed at the judges discretion, in the best interest of the fleece.
- Fleece committee and judges’ decisions are final.
- Fleeces will be judged for handspinning/artisan use. Fleeces are assessed for cleanliness including yield, soundness, handle, crimp, staple length, uniformity and characteristics related to the breed. A copy of the judges sheet will be sent to the entrant following the competition.
- White and natural coloured fleeces from sheep in any Canadian province may be entered.
- Entrants may enter up to three fleeces in each class.
- Entry fee: $10.00 per fleece. Entry fees are payable to Prairie Fibreshed Network Inc. and should be included with the entry form. Deadline for entry forms and fees: June 30, 2025.
- Fleeces can be delivered to the SSDB office by July 15, or delivered to the Humboldt Uniplex by 8AM July 19.
- Fleeces should be in the grease, well prepared (skirted) and individually packed in a clear plastic bag and accompanied with a copy of the Fleece ID form.
- Certificates: In each class: First, Second and Honourable Mention.
Ribbons: Supreme Champion Fleece, Reserve Champion Fleece. - The 2024 Fleece Competition is an initiative of the Prairie Fibreshed Network Inc., Saskatchewan Sheep Development Board and Saskatchewan Sheep Breeders Association, who shall not be liable for any loss or damage occurring to the fleeces entered in this competition. Every effort will be made to take good care of the fleeces during the competition, display and auction.
- Disbursement/sale of fleeces:
- Fleeces marked for sale will be sold after the judging, in an online sale. In the case of fleeces not marked for sale or those not reaching the reserve bid, arrangements will be made with the entrant regarding the disbursement of the fleece.
- Sale proceeds to the exhibitor less 10% commission, if reserve is not met, commission will be charged on reserve price.
